Empowering Students: A Key To Retention Success -- Webinar Review

Heightened calls for institutional accountability regarding lackluster retention rates has prompted many higher education administrators to consider an unlikely partner to stem rising student attrition: at-risk students. The trend among higher education administrators toward creating a culture of empowered learners to bolster persistence, along with best practices in leveraging students as active participants in retention initiatives, was revealed by preeminent student success thought leader Dr. Skip Downing in Thursday’s complimentary EducationDynamics webinar, Empowering Students: A Key to Retention Success.

Dr. Downing explained that creating a culture of student empowerment necessitates a shift to cultivating student success from the “inside out,” an approach that identifies the inner qualities of an empowered learner and helps students develop these qualities so they consistently make wise choices. Students who display a strong sense of personal responsibility, self motivation, interdependence, self awareness, and a propensity for life-long learning, he said, are much more likely to be successful in college and beyond.

If you were unable to attend the webinar featuring Dr. Downing, would like to view it again or wish share it with your colleagues, a complimentary recording of the webinar is available on demand at http://www.educationdynamics.com/ndsr/. There you can also gain access to previous National Dialog on Student Retention webinars, including Now What? Political Implications of the New Administration on Higher Education featuring William Hansen and Scott Fleming, and Retention 2.0: From Theory to Tactics featuring Dr. George Kuh.

Have you heard of Pharos 360?  It is a web based service that aids student retention.  Their white page on their work with ACU @ www.pharosresources.com is pretty interesting.   They are also working with MSSU, LCU, etc... would be good to hear a webinar from their creator.

The popular comment layout is common, so it is easily recognized when scanning to post a comment. If the comment section is in a different format, then I am going to spend more time trying to decipher what everything means.
